Our Honeymoon
Honeymoon
Naturally one goes on a honeymoon after the wedding, ourselves being no exception. Luckily for me, Joanne works in the travel industry, and so she organised a fantastic 3 week tour of New Zealand. We traveled the North Island in a car, visiting Auckland, Cape Reinga, the Bay of Islands, Waitomo, Rotorua, Taupo, Napier and Wellington before crossing to the South Island and Christchurch. We firstly did a TranzAlpine train journey. Then we collected a motorhome and toured Mt. Cook, Queenstown, Te Anau, Doubtful Sound, Milford Sound, Arrowtown, Wanaka, the West Coast, Greymouth, Pancake rocks and Hanmer springs before dropping the motorhome back off in Christchurch and flying home.
Some snaps below:
Honking great Kauri tree
Pukematu Lodge - the first part of our Honeymoon
Cape Reinga - the equivalent of John O'Groats
The imaginatively named 60 mile long 90-mile-beach
Your host paddling somewhere in The Bay of Islands
View from the balcony at Pukematu Lodge. The host was a larger than life Maori policeman along with his wife.
View from Pukematu Lodge
Rotorua
Maori village at Rotorua - these eejits live on a volcanic timebomb!
The Huka Jet - a 5.7litre Chevy V8 powered boat. Cool!!
Napier - we stayed with Bens mum. Napier is almost entirely built 'Art Deco' as a result of being flattened in the '30s.
I expected to see a yellow twat at this place
TranzAlpine train from Christchurch to Greymouth straight over the Alps
Very English looking building in Christchurch.
Heading towards Mount Cook in the High Country
Boating on a glacial lake
Camping in some scenic places
Kwaaaaaaaak!
Doubtful Sound - it rains a LOT here.
Manapouri hydro power station. Something like Dinorwig.
Milford Sound - and Mitre Peak
Arrowtown
Stuart Landsboroughs world of puzzles in Wanaka. A great maze, easy enough if you just turn left at every junction, but if you're stoopid and run around like a headless chicken you'll be there hours!!
Temperate rain forest on the West Coast (it rains a lot here)
We cheated and flew up the Fox & Franz Josef glaciers
Look out for trains!
Pancake rocks
My wife
